ADILA X HOZ COLLECTIVE — BOX OF CONSTELLATIONS: REPTILIAN SKIN

'Box of Constellations' is a series of 7 cubical sculptures where spilled milk is residing in 7 different rooms with 7 different characters made of metal oxides as natural pigments for ceramics. 'Box of Constellations' is highlighting the contradictory state of the Milky Way as the galaxy in the form of spilled white liquid which was put in a tiny room-shaped box instead of in a vast borderless space.

One immediate sight when I first thought about the pieces is how I constantly feel lost in a place that essentially belongs to us. I felt the urge to re-visit the feeling of being trapped in our own space, longing for something we should be able to feel safe because we are home.

'Box of Constellations' depicts the Milky Way in naturally-varied rooms. What makes it personal is because the galaxy is ours in which it would be easier for us to visualize our bodily existence.

Technique used: slabbing, pinching, coiling, slip impasto

Gas-fired in reduction to cone 7 (1240°C)
